What Is Free Life Insurance And How Can You Get It
Free life insurance can be found in a number of ways, but what is this coverage and how does it work? Free life insurance is coverage that is provided at no cost to you, as a benefit from a company or business, employer, or other group. The amount of this coverage can vary, from one thousand dollars all the way up to five or ten times your yearly salary or even more. Some employers offer completely free life insurance coverage for employees as a benefit of their employment, and many banks, credit unions, and other financial institutions offer members a free policy for a small amount as a benefit of being a member. With most of these free policies an examination, physical, or extensive testing is not usually required, unless the policy amount is significant. Each underwriter or life insurance company will have their own procedures which need to be followed, so the company providing the policy will determine whether you must see a physician, have a medical exam, or undergo blood or urine testing.
Free life insurance usually involves group coverage, which means that one master policy covers all members of a group, whether that is employees of a company, account holders at a bank or credit union, workers who belong to a union or labor organization, or any other group eligible for coverage. Most of the times the premiums paid by the sponsoring business or entity are much smaller than they would be with individual life insurance coverage, because as a whole the entire group has lower risks and so they get lower premium costs. If you choose the free coverage you will not normally receive the original policy, known as the master policy under this coverage type, but will instead get a certificate of insurance coverage. The entity or employer paying for the life insurance coverage will keep the master policy. In some cases you may choose to pay for additional amounts over the free coverage, at a lower rate than buying another policy would cost you.
If you have access to free life insurance coverage through your employer, bank or credit union, or other sources it is always a good idea to take advantage of this. In addition, you may want to increase your coverage amounts, depending on your specific budget and circumstances, the type of insurance offered, and other relevant factors. Life insurance is intended to financially protect those you leave behind, and having an adequate amount of this coverage is important. Free life insurance may seem like small amounts, but these coverage amounts do not cost you anything so it would be foolish not to take advantage of the free policy. As you age you will see your premiums increase in most cases, and when you want to increase coverage it may be cheaper to do it with a company who already insures you, even if that insurance does not cost you a penny of your own hard earned money. In this case the old saying you get what you pay for is not true.
